Learn how to make delicious Original Joe Sandwich. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (or substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of your favorite cheese (Cheddar or Monterey Jack works well)
4 hearty sandwich rolls or buns
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
Start by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and diced bell pepper to the skillet and cook for another 3 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes.
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for another 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Preheat your oven’s broiler. Slice the sandwich rolls and lay them open on a baking sheet. Drizzle the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over the rolls.
Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the bottom half of each roll and top with a slice of cheese.
Broil the sandwiches in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes. Keep a close eye to avoid burning.
Remove from the oven, cover with the top half of the rolls, and serve hot.
