Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1/2 cup buttermilk (or substitute with 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
For the glaze: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar, whisking until smooth. Add the egg, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and maple syrup, mixing until well incorporated.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to ensure a tender crumb.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bars before serving.
