Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (your choice, but I love a smoky variety)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional for garnish)
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can swap the ground beef for turkey or even a plant-based alternative. The BBQ sauce can also be tailored to your taste, whether you prefer something more tangy or sweet.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the BBQ sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the beef. Stir to combine and let simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese and egg until smooth.
- To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of the beef mixture at the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place a layer of noodles over the beef, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the bacon crumbles, and a third of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of noodles and a generous topping of the remaining cheeses.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with green onions if desired.
When I make this lasagna, I always think of the patience and care my abuela put into every meal. Remember, cooking is an art, not a science, so feel free to adjust the ingredients to suit your taste.
