Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade if you prefer)
Feel free to substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor, or use walnuts if you prefer a different nutty twist.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If using a homemade pie crust, roll it out and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter until smooth.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and half of the pecan halves.
- Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Arrange the remaining pecan halves decoratively on top of the brownie batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the brownie layer is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the pie to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Remember, patience is key here — letting the pie cool ensures that the layers set properly, making it easier to slice.
