  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this comforting dish in your own kitchen:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 ounces andouille sausage, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in with a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the biscuits bake, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. Add the andouille sausage slices and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  9. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  10. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage mixture and stir to coat.
  11. Slowly pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
  12. Add the shrimp and Cajun seasoning, cooking until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  13. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the gravy over warm cheddar biscuits.
