Learn how to make delicious Cheesy Beef and Mushroom Pita Pockets. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 whole wheat pita breads
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Feel free to substitute ground turkey for the beef if you prefer a leaner option, or try a mix of your favorite cheeses for a different flavor profile.

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking until the mushrooms are tender and any liquid has evaporated, approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Stir in the paprika, salt, and black pepper, cooking until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F. While the oven is heating, stir the shredded mozzarella cheese into the beef and mushroom mixture, allowing it to melt and combine.
  5. Cut the pita breads in half and gently open each pocket. Spoon the cheesy beef and mushroom mixture into each pita half, filling them generously.
  6. Place the filled pitas on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the pitas are warm and slightly crispy.
  7. If desired, garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
