Ingredients
- 1 large loaf of sourdough or other crusty bread
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Pinch of salt and pepper to taste
If you’re missing an ingredient, don’t worry. You can substitute the mozzarella with any melty cheese you have on hand, like cheddar or Monterey Jack. The herbs can be swapped for fresh ones if you prefer, and you can even add some chili flakes for a bit of heat.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Using a sharp bread knife, carefully make diagonal cuts into the bread, about 1 inch apart, creating a diamond pattern. Be sure not to cut all the way through.
- In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, oregano, parsley, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Gently pull apart the bread sections and use a spoon to drizzle the garlic butter mixture into the cuts. Be generous for maximum flavor!
- Stuff the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan into the cuts, ensuring each is filled with cheesy goodness.
- Wrap the prepared bread in aluminum foil and place it on the baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, open the foil to expose the top and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the gooey, cheesy delight!
The first time I made this, I was reminded of helping my abuela in the kitchen, her hands guiding mine as we prepped ingredients. That memory of shared cooking is what I hope to recreate each time I prepare this bread.
