Ingredients
To create this delectable dish, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk (feel free to substitute with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 8 slices of thick bread (brioche or challah work wonderfully)
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Optional: sliced fresh apples for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Spread a generous layer of apple butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Form sandwiches by placing two slices of bread together, apple butter sides facing in.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter.
- Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining sandwiches, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
- Once cooked, transfer the French toast to a plate and dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately with maple syrup and, if desired, garnish with fresh apple slices.
