- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or substitute with almond milk for a dairy-free option)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 8 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or challah works best)
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Maple syrup, for serving (optional)
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add one tablespoon of unsalted butter. Allow it to melt and coat the pan evenly.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well soaked but not overly saturated.
- Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet, cooking in batches if necessary. Fry each side for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Once cooked, transfer the French toast to a serving plate and spread a generous layer of apple butter on each slice.
- If desired, dust with powdered sugar and serve with a drizzle of maple syrup.
