Learn how to make delicious Crispy Chicken Tacos with Spicy Sauce. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil for frying
8 corn tortillas
1 cup shredded lettuce
1/2 cup diced tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
Juice of 1 lime
1 avocado, sliced
Instructions
Begin by preparing the chicken. Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized strips and place them in a bowl with the buttermilk. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by 1/4 inch.
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off, and dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
Fry the chicken in batches, about 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
For the spicy sauce, whisk together the mayonnaise, hot sauce, and lime juice in a small bowl. Adjust the hot sauce to your preferred level of spiciness.
Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat, about 30 seconds per side, until pliable.
Assemble the tacos by placing a handful of shredded lettuce on each tortilla, followed by crispy chicken, diced tomatoes, avocado slices, and a generous drizzle of spicy sauce. Top with chopped cilantro.
