Learn how to make delicious Crispy Honey Garlic Shrimp Bowls. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish

Feel free to substitute the vegetable oil with avocado or peanut oil for a slightly different flavor profile. If you’re out of rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar can be a handy alternative.

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and black pepper. Toss the shrimp in the mixture until well coated.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the shrimp in batches, frying each side for about 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  3. In a small saucepan, mix honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the fried shrimp, tossing gently to coat them evenly.
  5. Serve the shrimp over bowls of cooked rice, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

My abuela always reminded me that the secret to a good sauce is to “listen” to it — when you can hear it bubbling gently, it’s usually just right!
