Ingredients
Gathering your ingredients is one of my favorite parts of cooking. It’s like setting the stage for a beautiful story to unfold. Here’s what you’ll need for these tasty biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 pound roast beef, thinly sliced
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 packet au jus gravy mix
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional: fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish
Feel free to make substitutions based on your preferences or dietary needs. For instance, you can use gluten-free flour or a different type of cheese. Cooking is all about making it your own!
Instructions
Let’s get cooking! Follow these steps, and you’ll have a delicious meal ready in no time. Just like the meals my family shared, these instructions are straightforward and filled with love.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold butter cubes and, using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the milk and gently mix until a dough forms. Be careful not to overmix!
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the roast beef and Worcestershire sauce, cooking until the beef is heated through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of each biscuit round, followed by a spoonful of roast beef. Top with another biscuit round.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
- While the biscuits bake, prepare the au jus according to the package instructions.
- Serve the warm biscuits with a side of au jus for dipping, and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
These biscuits are a labor of love, much like the meals my family shared. Enjoy the process and the delicious results!
