Learn how to make delicious Garlic Herb Butter Steak. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless ribeye steaks, about 1 inch thick
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

Feel free to substitute the herbs with your favorites or what you have on hand. Cilantro and oregano can add a unique twist if you want to experiment!

Instructions

  1. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This ensures even cooking.
  2. Season both sides of the steak generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is shimmering, add the steaks to the pan.
  4. Sear the steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until a beautiful crust forms. Remember, patience is key here — don’t move the steaks around!
  5. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and parsley to the pan.
  6. Baste the steaks with the melted herb butter using a spoon, tilting the pan slightly to collect the butter. This step is what infuses the steak with that wonderful garlic herb flavor.
  7. Continue cooking to your desired doneness. For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of 135°F.
  8. Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute, making each bite juicy and flavorful.
  9. Serve with lemon wedges if desired, and enjoy your homemade Garlic Herb Butter Steak!
