Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1 package of Hawaiian rolls (12 count)
6 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or sliced almonds
Optional: Maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the prepared baking dish.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Pour half of the egg mixture over the bottom halves of the rolls, ensuring they are evenly soaked. Place the top halves of the rolls on top.
Pour the remaining egg mixture over the rolls, pressing down gently to help the bread absorb the liquid.
Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the rolls. If using nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the top.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving with a drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.
