Ingredients
Gather these fresh ingredients to bring a touch of my kitchen to yours:
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Whole grain buns, for serving
- Optional: sliced avocado, tomatoes, or your favorite toppings
Feel free to substitute ground turkey for chicken if you prefer, or try using a different cheese like sharp cheddar for a variation in flavor.
Instructions
Let’s embark on this culinary adventure together:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated. This step always reminds me of how my abuela used to say, “The best tools in the kitchen are your hands!”
- Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Make sure they are uniform in size for even cooking.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. You’ll know they’re ready when the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- While the patties are cooking, toast your whole grain buns either in the oven or on the stovetop for an extra layer of flavor.
- Assemble your burgers by placing a chicken patty on each bun and adding your choice of toppings. I love adding slices of creamy avocado and fresh tomato for an extra burst of flavor!
