Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 pound smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice or quinoa, for serving
This list brings back memories of gathering ingredients with my grandmother, where simplicity was key, and every item had its purpose. Feel free to substitute chicken sausage if preferred, or add bell peppers for more color and flavor.
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage slices and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the sausage and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan for extra flavor.
- Add the broccoli to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
- Push the broccoli to the side and add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook until pink and opaque, about 2 minutes per side.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Pour over the shrimp and broccoli, stirring to coat evenly.
- Return the sausage to the skillet and toss everything together, allowing the flavors to meld for another 2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve over rice or quinoa while hot.
As you cook, remember to let your senses guide you, much like my grandmother did, tasting and adjusting as needed. This intuitive cooking style is what makes every meal uniquely yours.
