  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup whiskey (Irish whiskey preferred)
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing your whiskey sauce. In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Pour in the whiskey and bring it to a simmer, allowing the alcohol to cook off for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the beef broth, heavy cream, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Stir to combine and let it simmer for another 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties.

  6. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to allow the cheese to melt.
