Ingredients
Let’s gather everything you need to create these mouthwatering sliders. One of the joys of cooking is realizing how a few simple ingredients can come together to make something truly special.
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 12 slider buns
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (optional)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles
If you’re looking to switch things up, you can substitute the chicken with turkey or even Portobello mushrooms for a vegetarian twist. The maple syrup can be swapped for honey if you’re in the mood for a different kind of sweetness.
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix together the maple syrup, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. This will be your marinade, a sweet and savory concoction that I learned to perfect by watching my abuela create magic without recipes.
- Place the chicken breasts in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the chicken to soak up all that goodness.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken breasts, cooking each side for about 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice golden brown color. I often use this time to reminisce about the countless hours spent in the kitchen with my family, where cooking was just as much about bonding as it was about eating.
- Remove the chicken and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, slice it into smaller, slider-sized pieces.
- To assemble the sliders, spread a little mayonnaise on the bottom half of each slider bun. Add a piece of chicken, a handful of shredded lettuce, and a couple of pickle slices. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
