Learn how to make delicious Sweet Condensed Milk Bread. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

If you’re out of sweetened condensed milk, you can create a quick substitute by combining equal parts evaporated milk and sugar, then gently heating until the sugar dissolves. This little trick has saved me more than once!

Instructions

  1. Start by dissolving the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. This is a trick I learned from watching my father bake — patience at this stage makes all the difference.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, sweetened condensed milk, melted butter, and beaten egg.
  3. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. This tactile process always reminds me of rolling out tortillas with my siblings, laughter filling the air.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough to release air and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped. The aroma will transport you to a kitchen filled with love and tradition.
  7. Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Patience, as my abuela would say, is the key to perfection!
