Ingredients
Gather these ingredients to create a meal that’s as comforting as it is delicious:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 8 ounces rice noodles or your favorite noodle variety
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup green onions, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
If you’re looking to switch things up, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef, and swap out the rice noodles for whole wheat or zucchini noodles for a healthier twist.
Instructions
Follow these simple steps to bring a taste of comfort to your kitchen:
- Begin by cooking the noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sesame oil and ground beef. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and ground ginger to the beef. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, and crushed red pepper flakes. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Mix in the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce, stirring continuously until the sauce has thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the cooked noodles and sliced green onions to the skillet, tossing everything together to ensure the noodles are well coated with the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve hot. Don’t forget to sprinkle additional green onions on top for a fresh finish.
As my abuela would always say, “Taste and adjust as you go. Let your senses guide you!” This advice has never steered me wrong, and it’s a great reminder to make the dish your own.
