Ingredients
Let’s gather everything you need to whip up these scrumptious roll-ups!
- 8 slices of white or wheat sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese, cut in half
- 4 slices of deli ham
- 4 slices of deli turkey
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving
Feel free to substitute with your favorite type of cheese or bread. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a tangy mustard for a bit of zing!
Instructions
- Start by flattening each slice of bread with a rolling pin until thin. This helps with rolling and creates a nice texture.
- Lay a half slice of Swiss cheese, a slice of ham, and a slice of turkey on each piece of bread.
- Tightly roll each bread slice, encasing the fillings. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk. This is reminiscent of the French toast batter my abuela would make on Sunday mornings.
- Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated.
- Place the roll-ups seam-side down in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Transfer to a plate and lightly dust with powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness that complements the savory fillings.
