Learn how to make delicious Simple Lemon Parmesan Pasta. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Gathering your ingredients is like setting the stage for a culinary performance. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 12 ounces of spaghetti or your favorite pasta
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Zest and juice of 2 lemons
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

If you’re out of heavy cream, feel free to substitute with half-and-half or whole milk for a lighter version. And if Parmesan isn’t your cheese of choice, Pecorino Romano works wonderfully too, bringing a sharper bite to the dish.

Instructions

Let’s dive into the creation of this dish, step by step:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, according to package instructions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
  2. In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the heavy cream to the pan, stirring to combine with the garlic.
  4. Stir in the Parmesan cheese, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the pan, tossing to coat it in the creamy sauce. If the mixture seems too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan and lemon wedges if desired.

This dish is a reminder of my grandmother’s teachings—let your senses guide you, adjust to taste, and most importantly, enjoy the process.
