Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juiciness)
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of cheese (Monterey Jack or your favorite)
- 4 burger buns, toasted
- Your choice of toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.
For those who prefer a different protein, ground turkey or chicken can be used as lighter alternatives, though the flavor profile will change slightly. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the spices, either — after all, cooking is about following your senses, just like my abuela taught me.
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, smoked paprika, cumin, coriander, garlic, oregano, cilantro, onion, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into four equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to ensure even cooking.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a stovetop, heat a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the grill or pan is hot, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.
- Remove the patties from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, keeping your burgers succulent.
- Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in the oven.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on the buns and adding your favorite toppings.
Remember to trust your instincts as you cook; the aromas and textures will guide you, just as they did in my childhood kitchen.
