Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pizza dough (or homemade if you’re feeling adventurous!)
- 1 cup spicy Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Feel free to adapt based on what’s in your pantry. If spicy isn’t your thing, opt for a milder sausage, or swap the feta with goat cheese for a creamier bite. The beauty of home cooking, as my abuela would say, is in the flexibility it offers!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet or a pizza peel if using a stone.
- Brush the dough with olive oil and spread the pizza sauce evenly across the surface, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the sauce, followed by the crumbled spicy sausage and feta cheese.
- Drizzle half of the honey over the toppings, then sprinkle the red pepper flakes for an extra kick.
- Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven, drizzle with the remaining honey, and sprinkle dried oregano over the top.
- Let the pizza cool for a few minutes, then garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
This process is a delightful dance of flavors coming together, much like the way my grandmother used to teach me to cook — with intuition and love.
