Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
Feel free to substitute the ground pork with turkey for a leaner option or use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed. The hot sauce can be adjusted to suit your spice preference.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, taking care not to overwork the meat.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Once the meatballs are done, toss them in the sauce until they’re well-coated, then return them to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to let the sauce caramelize slightly.
Remember, cooking is about trusting your senses, just like my abuela taught me. So, taste and adjust the sauce as you see fit!
