Learn how to make delicious Sweet & Sour Chinese Dip. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, ketchup, and sugar. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add the soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Continue to stir and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. This step always reminds me of my grandmother’s patient teaching as she showed me how to avoid lumps in sauces.
Gradually add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly. Allow the dip to thicken, usually around 2-3 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the dip cool slightly before serving. The flavors will meld beautifully, creating a perfect balance.
