Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
- 1/2 cup shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup salted pretzels, crushed
- 1/4 cup caramel bits
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup peanut butter chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Each ingredient here is a tribute to the idea that cooking can be a joyful act of improvisation. Feel free to substitute or add ingredients based on what you have at home—much like how my abuela would often swap ingredients depending on what was in season or what was available in the pantry.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If you’re anything like me, this is the perfect time to put on your favorite playlist and let the rhythm set the mood in the kitchen.
- Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, ensuring it’s well-fitted. Crimp the edges for a decorative touch, just like my grandma used to do.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract.
- Pour the condensed milk mixture evenly over the pie crust.
- Layer the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, crushed pretzels, caramel bits, chopped pecans, and peanut butter chips over the condensed milk. This is where the magic happens, and you can really see all those vibrant colors and textures come together.
- Place the pie in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set. Let the pie cool completely before slicing into it.
- Once cooled, slice, serve, and watch as your guests’ faces light up with delight.
Every time I make this pie, I’m reminded of those childhood moments when my siblings and I would sneak tastes of batter when our grandmother wasn’t looking. It’s that kind of playful spirit that makes this pie so special.
