Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. If you’re out of honey, a dash of maple syrup works just as well, adding a different kind of sweetness. For a more robust flavor, consider marinating the chicken in a bit of balsamic vinegar and olive oil overnight. This small step, inspired by my grandmother’s knack for layering flavors, can make all the difference!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). While the oven is heating, season the chicken breasts on both sides with salt and pepper.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the balsamic vinegar and stir in the honey and oregano. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing it to reduce slightly.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning the balsamic glaze over each piece. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving, if desired.
This recipe reminds me of helping my abuela in the kitchen, the aroma of simmering sauces filling the air. Just as she taught me the importance of patience in cooking, let the chicken rest after baking to soak up all the delicious flavors.
