Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes for extra heat
For a little twist, you can swap the Cajun seasoning with Creole seasoning, which adds a slightly different spice profile. If you’re avoiding butter, a good quality plant-based alternative works beautifully too.
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and place them in a bowl. Sprinkle with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper, tossing to coat evenly. My grandmother always said that seasoning was an art — don’t be afraid to adjust to your taste.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp, cooking for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add butter. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic, cooking until fragrant but not browned, about 1 minute.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet, tossing them in the garlic butter sauce. Add lemon juice and parsley, stirring to combine. Cook for another 2 minutes until everything is heated through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If you like it spicy, sprinkle some red pepper flakes for an extra kick.
These steps reflect the simplicity of the process, yet deliver a complexity of flavors that I adore.
