Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pizza dough (or homemade if you’re feeling adventurous)
- 1 cup of pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Feel free to substitute the mozzarella with a blend of cheeses you have on hand or add some sliced tomatoes for an extra burst of freshness. The key here is to follow your senses, much like my abuela did.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). This will ensure a crispy crust, reminiscent of the homemade tortillas I loved to make with my grandmother.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your preferred thickness. I like mine thin and crispy, but feel free to make it as thick as you wish.
- Transfer the dough onto a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the olive oil over the crust, then evenly spread the pizza sauce on top, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic over the sauce, followed by the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
- Add a dash of salt, pepper, and dried oregano for extra flavor.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and scatter the fresh basil leaves over the top. The heat will slightly wilt them, releasing their fragrant aroma.
- Let it cool for a minute or two, slice, and serve. Enjoy the flavors as they meld together, much like the vibrant meals I cherish from my childhood.
