Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 4 hamburger buns
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Feel free to substitute turkey or beef for the ground chicken if you prefer. You can also use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter version.
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Reduce the heat to low and pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth. Stir gently to combine, allowing the mixture to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted and the sauce is thickened to your liking.
- Toast the hamburger buns under a broiler or in a toaster until golden brown. This adds a delightful crunch to your sloppy joes!
- Spoon the creamy chicken mixture over the toasted buns, garnishing with fresh parsley for a pop of color and flavor.
Cooking tip: If the sauce becomes too thick, simply add a splash more chicken broth to reach the desired consistency. Remember, cooking is all about following your senses, just like my abuela taught me.
