Ingredients
- 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls
- 3 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
If Granny Smith apples aren’t available, feel free to substitute with Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for a slightly different but equally delicious flavor profile. The optional pecans add a delightful crunch that reminds me of the nutty treats we’d enjoy during family gatherings.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and set the icing aside. Cut each roll into quarters and scatter them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the apple slices, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss the ingredients together until the apples are well coated.
- Layer the apple mixture over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish. Pour the melted butter and vanilla extract evenly over the apples and rolls.
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top, if using, for an added layer of flavor and texture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden and the apples are tender and bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the reserved icing over the top before serving.
This recipe is forgiving and adaptable, much like my grandmother’s approach to cooking. Feel free to adjust the spices or quantities to suit your taste—cooking is all about making it your own.
