Ingredients
- 4 ripe pears, halved and cored
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)
- A pinch of salt
Feel free to substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds if you prefer. The honey can also be swapped for maple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- Arrange the pear halves in the dish, cut side up, allowing them to snuggle close together.
- In a small bowl, mix together the honey, cinnamon, vanilla extract, melted butter, and a pinch of salt. This sweet concoction is what my abuela would call “liquid gold” for its ability to enhance the simplest of ingredients.
- Drizzle the honey mixture generously over each pear half, making sure they are well-coated.
- If you’re adding nuts, sprinkle them over the pears for an added crunch. I often think of my siblings at this point, bickering over who gets the pear with the most nuts!
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pears are tender and slightly caramelized at the edges.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
