Learn how to make delicious Garlic Butter Steak Potato Casserole. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

If you’re looking to tweak the ingredients, you can substitute sirloin steak with chicken breast for a lighter version, or swap cheddar for mozzarella for a different cheesy twist. Just like in my childhood kitchen, feel free to make it your own!

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a large baking dish by greasing it lightly with olive oil.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced garlic, cooking until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add the steak cubes to the skillet, seasoning with salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. In the prepared baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly.
  5. Pour half of the garlic butter from the skillet over the potatoes, ensuring even coverage.
  6. Top the potatoes with the browned steak cubes, followed by the remaining garlic butter.
  7. Pour the heavy cream over the entire dish and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

This dish reminds me of the layered casseroles my mom used to make, filled with love and the hustle of family life. Each layer is a story, each bite a memory.
