Ingredients
- 1 pound of cremini mushrooms, cleaned and halved
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
If you’re missing any ingredients, feel free to get creative. No cremini mushrooms? Button mushrooms work just as well! And if you’re out of fresh parsley, dried will do in a pinch.
Instructions
- Begin by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. This is where the magic starts, as the oil shimmers and the kitchen begins to fill with anticipation.
- Add the mushrooms to the skillet, spreading them out in a single layer. Cook without stirring for about 4 minutes, allowing them to brown beautifully on one side. This browning is key to achieving that deep, umami flavor.
- Stir the mushrooms, then add the butter and minced garlic. Sauté for another 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. The garlic should turn golden, releasing an aroma that will transport you straight to my grandmother’s kitchen.
- Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss everything together, letting the flavors meld for an additional 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice and chopped parsley. The lemon juice adds a refreshing brightness, while the parsley lends a pop of color and freshness.
- Serve immediately for the best taste and texture. These mushrooms are a testament to the beauty of simple ingredients prepared with love.
