Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 oz marshmallows (one bag or about 40 regular-sized marshmallows)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (orange, green, or purple for a Halloween vibe)
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, for added sweetness)
- Assorted Halloween sprinkles
If you’re missing an ingredient or two, no worries! You can easily substitute the marshmallows with marshmallow fluff, or use colored candy melts instead of food coloring for more vibrant treats. It’s all about making it your own.
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the marshmallows until they’re completely melted and smooth. This part always takes me back to the days spent with my mom, watching her effortlessly whip up the fluffiest marshmallow mixture.
- Remove from heat and add in the vanilla extract, stirring until well combined. At this stage, add a few drops of food coloring to achieve your desired Halloween shade.
- Pour the Rice Krispies cereal into the marshmallow mixture, stirring until the cereal is well coated.
- For an extra touch of sweetness, gently fold in the mini chocolate chips, being careful not to melt them entirely.
- Press the mixture into a greased or parchment-lined 9×13 inch pan, using a buttered spatula or wax paper to spread it evenly. Sprinkle the top with your chosen Halloween sprinkles.
- Allow the treats to cool completely before cutting into squares. My siblings and I would often sneak a few pieces before they fully set, unable to resist the allure of the gooey, sticky goodness.
