Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 10 garlic cloves, minced (yes, really 10!)
- 1/4 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
- Cooked white rice for serving
If you’re out of white wine, feel free to substitute with chicken broth for a milder flavor. And if you’re looking to add a bit of heat, a pinch of cayenne pepper in the flour mixture works wonders.
Instructions
- Begin by patting the shrimp dry with paper towels, which will help them crisp up nicely when cooked.
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Dredge the shrimp in this mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and slightly golden. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic as it can turn bitter.
- Pour in the white wine (or chicken broth) and lemon juice, stirring to deglaze the pan and scrape up any flavorful bits from the bottom. Let the sauce simmer for around 2 minutes to reduce slightly.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet, tossing them in the garlic butter sauce to coat evenly. Cook for another 2 minutes to heat through.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving over a bed of steaming white rice.
As someone who values the art of cooking, I always recommend tasting as you go. Adjust the seasoning to your preference and savor the process as much as the final dish.
