Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
1/2 cup unsalted butter, browned
3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup water
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
Instructions
Start by browning the butter: Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and water until warm (about 110°F), then add the browned butter. Stir until combined.
Add the milk mixture and egg to the flour mixture. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 15×10-inch rectangle.
Spread 2 tablespoons of softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
Tightly roll up the dough from the long side and cut into 12 rolls.
Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream cheese. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
