Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Feel free to substitute the sausage with chicken sausage or turkey sausage for a lighter version. If you’re out of broccoli, snap peas or asparagus can add a fresh twist to the dish.
Instructions
- Begin by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat and adding the olive oil.
- Add the sliced sausage to the skillet, cooking until they’re browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the sausage from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets and a splash of water. Cover and let steam for about 3 minutes until they turn bright green and slightly tender.
- Remove the cover and add the shrimp to the skillet, cooking until they start to turn pink, about 2-3 minutes.
- While the shrimp are cooking, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
- Return the sausage to the skillet and pour the honey garlic sauce over everything. Stir well to coat all the ingredients evenly, letting the sauce simmer for an additional 2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from heat. Serve immediately for best flavor.
One personal tip: always taste as you go. It’s something I learned from my mom, who could tweak a dish into perfection with just a pinch of this or a dash of that.
