Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Press the meat mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, forming an even layer. Set aside.
Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, until golden.
Gradually whisk in the milk, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cook until thickened, stirring frequently, about 4-5 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and paprika until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, ensuring the pasta is well coated.
Spread the mac and cheese mixture evenly over the meatloaf layer in the baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Let it cool for a few minutes before garnishing with chopped parsley, if desired, and serving.
