Ingredients
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (or almond butter for a twist)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Pinch of salt
Feel free to substitute almond butter for peanut butter if you’re looking for a nutty alternative. The granulated sugar can also be swapped for coconut sugar for a richer flavor profile. This flexibility makes it ideal for experimenting, just like I did growing up, inspired by my abuela’s intuitive cooking style.
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until the crumbs are well-coated and resemble wet sand.
- Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish to form the crust. Set aside in the fridge to firm up while preparing the filling.
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips with the heavy cream, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In another bowl, mix the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the peanut butter mixture evenly over the chilled crust, using a spatula to smooth the surface.
- Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the peanut butter layer, spreading it evenly to cover completely.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set. This allows the layers to meld beautifully, creating a symphony of flavors that remind me of the layered stories my family shared over meals.
- Once set, cut into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy the dessert that brings a smile to every face, much like the ones I remember from my family gatherings.
