Ingredients
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
- 1 pound ground sausage (mild or spicy, depending on your preference)
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Feel free to make it your own by adding or substituting ingredients. For a different twist, you can use turkey sausage or even a plant-based alternative. The beauty of cooking is that it’s adaptable, just like the flavors I grew up with.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the unbaked pie crust in a pie plate, crimping the edges as desired.
- In a skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced green bell pepper and chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. This mixture will form the creamy base of your pie.
- Layer the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture evenly over the pie crust. Sprinkle the shredded Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese on top.
- Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the egg is set and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This is the perfect time to reflect on the delicious aroma filling your kitchen.
