Learn how to make delicious Seared Tuna Steak with Sesame Crust. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.
Total Time:45 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
2 fresh tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 cup sesame seeds (white or black, or a mix)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional garnish: thinly sliced green onions
Instructions
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and sesame oil to create a marinade. Pour half of it over the tuna steaks and let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, flipping halfway through for even flavor.
Pour sesame seeds onto a plate. Remove tuna from marinade and press both sides of each steak into the seeds, ensuring an even coat. This step reminds me of rolling out dough with my abuela, feeling the texture and watching it transform under your hands.
Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, place the tuna steaks in the pan. Sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side until the sesame seeds are golden brown and the tuna is cooked to your liking. I personally love it rare in the center, capturing that fresh, ocean taste.
Remove from heat and let rest for a minute. Drizzle with the remaining marinade and garnish with sliced green onions if desired.
