Learn how to make delicious Spicy Jalapeño Chicken. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced (remove seeds for less heat)
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (or Greek yogurt as a healthier option)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Start by seasoning the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cumin. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the diced onions and sliced jalapeños. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onions become translucent and the jalapeños start to soften. This step always reminds me of the lively sizzle I’d hear in my mom’s kitchen, signaling something delicious was on its way.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, about 3 minutes. If you’re using Greek yogurt, add it at the very end to prevent curdling.
  6. Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the jalapeño sauce over them. Let the chicken simmer in the sauce for another 5 minutes, soaking up all those wonderful flavors.
  7. Finish with a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a generous sprinkle of chopped cilantro. This final touch adds a fresh, zesty note that ties everything together.
